Picasso, in his painting, reacted to Guernica by sharpening the emotional impact of his figures with expressionist distortion. My approach has been to orchestrate data, so people will — at best — both understand and be outraged. Øvind Fahlstrøm

— Good Game No Rematch

There is a special set of moves in chess which allows a player to win in four moves. Competitor A has been watching Competitor B play chess, and the past five games in a row Competitor B has attempted to use this four-move win. When Competitor A sits down to play against Competitor B, Competitor A will be metagaming if he/she plays in a way that will easily thwart the four-move checkmate before Competitor B makes it obvious that this is what he/she is doing.

— Should Have Known

…the anxious state that comes with the awareness that one can be viewed. …the subject loses some sense of autonomy upon realizing that he or she is a visible object. …the mirror stage, in which a child encountering a mirror realizes that he or she has an external appearance. …this gaze effect can similarly be produced by any conceivable object such as a chair or a television screen. This is not to say that the object behaves optically as a mirror; instead it means that the awareness of any object can induce an awareness of also being an object.

“I thought it was a wonderfully conceptual act actually, to fire a replica pistol at a figurehead – the guy could have been working for Andy Warhol!”

Reading is a complex cognitive process of decoding symbols for the intention of deriving meaning and/or constructing meaning. Written information is received by the retina, processed by the primary visual cortex, and interpreted in Wernicke’s area. Reading is a means of language acquisition, of communication, and of sharing information and ideas. Readers use a variety of reading strategies to assist with decoding and comprehension. Readers may use morpheme, semantics, syntax and context clues to identify the meaning of unknown words. Readers integrate the words they have read into their existing framework of knowledge or schema . Other types of reading are not speech based writing systems, such as music notation or pictograms. The common link is the interpretation of symbols to extract the meaning from the visual notations. Reading text is now an important way for the general population in many societies to access information and make meaning.

A trusted party is presumed to seek to fulfill policies, ethical codes, law and their previous promises. Trust does not need to involve belief in the good character, vices, or morals of the other party. Persons engaged in a criminal activity usually trust each other to some extent. Also, trust does not need to include an action that you and the other party are mutually engaged in. Trust is a statement about what is otherwise unknown — for example, because it is … bla bla bla bla

—FAQ

A question may be either a linguistic expression used to make a request for information, or else the request itself made by such an expression. This information is provided with an answer. Questions are normally put or asked using interrogative sentences. However they can also be put by imperative sentences, which normally express commands: “Tell me what two plus two is”; conversely, some expressions, such as “Would you pass the salt?”, have the grammatical form of questions but actually function as requests for action, not for answers, making them allofunctional.
